Snow, with pimples

The strangest thing about our unsually early, heavy snowfall is that the leaves are still falling. We are used to seeing snow on top of leaves, not the other way round. I can't tell you how surprising I find this. At every turn I come across patches of leaves lying on top of the snow. Above, the allotment site this afternoon, with distinction between the roadway and adjacent plot buried under the snow.

At one point on the Water of Leith walkway the leaves under a clump of birch trees by the path light up the snow as if touched by a shaft of summer sun.

I had not noticed the leaves on top of the snow! You are so right, things are a bit out of kilter this year.We still have not been out to the plot but as we have only leeks and turnips in situ hopefully they are tough enough to weather the cold spell.
I hope your fox is OK, they are coming in closer to the houses here too.

Down here in Hampshire most of our snow has melted today -- thank goodness!

We are still under really deep snow. i was craving some green stuff today, so made my way - thigh deep down the garden, ducking under a fallen telephone wire and, hoping I had guessed the right spot, dug down and down and down to the frozen kale. it was worth it though:) xx

I hadn't seen the leaves on the snow, but noticed snow on leaves on the trees! Also some berries are snowcovered, they usually fall off well before any snow. Fab picture of the leaves!

You're made of touch stuff, I haven't been to the allotment for a few weeks now. Our snow has turned to ice today, the roads are terrible.

No snow for us here in Kansas yet, but I know it will be coming. I just hope I am all prepared for Christmas before it does, so that I can just stay inside and look out at it as I sit by the fireplace!

Interesting picture wit the leaves on the snow!

We commented on this around our way too.

Usually our leaves fall before we get any appreciable snow. All but the oaks, of course. Those leaves are loosed well into January so it's not unusual for us to see leaves on top of snow. Kinda messy for us, but easy access for the squirrels who gather them up to renew their nest linings during the cold.

Pimples or freckles? We have a couple of old, tall oak trees that hang on to their brown leaves most of the winter, littering a few here and there on the fresh, clean snow. I never thought about them making a good photo. Glad you thought of it. Still no snow here. There will be lots of complaining by the locals if we go into Christmas Eve with a brown landscape. All of my perennials like snow cover, too. I'm rambling. Sorry.
