Why?

Why, on a day of non-stop rain, did I squelch along to the allotment? Rain pooling in every slight hollow in the soil. Everything sodden, and no-one else in sight.

This shot has come out much brighter than it actually was. We had lights on indoors all day, and by 3 o'clock daylight was fading.

The path through the trees shows it like it was.

But I needed some chard for tonight's meal, and having made up my week's menu it was somehow easier to plod out in the soaking rain than to think of an alternative. In the end, I was glad I'd done it.

In a word, the day was Dreary. The chard made up for it.

I love rainbow chard - it certainly brightens up the kind of day we've had. Well done for venturing out, although it always seems worth it to get out in the open air -even if it is so wet.

Hi Linda,...I liked your pictures. Especially the last picture at the bottom,...it sure was colorful. I don't even know what chard is? Looks like celery or rhubarb. I am so not a gardener! (:>)

Hey, I just had my 100th post and I am doing a giveaway. Pop on over if you have the time.

Linda, the next time we have a gloomy day here, I'll get out some chard and brighten up my day. That's an amazing photo. I luv it. It should be framed. Even on a day of rain, your allotment looks very appealing to me.

Goodness! That chard is so bright you could have used them as a torch to light your way home through the gloom. Hope they were as de-licious as they were de-light-full. :-D

Thanks everyone for the comments. The chard did make up for the soaking, but the stems were tougher than when I last picked it. But it's worth growing just to look at. I also discovered that my knee-length, designed-for-the-Scottish-weather waterproof is no longer waterproof...

Chard is so beautiful this time of year that I love to just stare at it. We had a baby visiting yesterday, and I used him as an excuse to just stand and stare at the pretty leaves and stems.

A little rain only brings out the light in the colors, yes?

Lovely!

I know exactly the kind of dark dreary days you have had, just like ours! The mixture of sheds on the plots looks great even in this dismal weather with some dahlias still hanging on, and your beautiful coloured Chard was worth the wetting

This allotment gardening is very interesting. I have never heard of it before but it seems like a wonderful concept. I love the pictures of assorted gardens. The soil looks very rich. I came over to this blog after you made some comments on mine.

I've enjoyed reading your blog. What a dismal day, still there was plenty of colour in the chard. Great photo.
