Skywatch Friday - portents

Sunday's blue skies began to change as I worked at the allotment. To the south, all was cloudless and calm, but to the north mares' tails appeared. I felt a sense of foreboding, and checked the netting over the broccoli in the face of what I was sure would be wild weather overnight. The broccoli is coming along well, protected from the pigeons this year.

On my walk home the eastern sky was full of portents too. I was even more certain that we were in for a stormy night.

But Monday morning came with the first white frost of the year, and my first thought on seeing it was that I didn't have my frost-loving winter planting garlic in yet. My second thought was relief - at last some seasonable weather.

More skies around the world are at Skywatch Friday.

The last photo is especially amazing, Linda. It almost looks like two different skies on two different mornings.

I've never heard of the expression mares' tails when looking at the sky. I like it.

Beatuiful. I love the bottom picture of the cloud formation.

We were in Beijing this summer. We visited the Ming Dynasty Tombs and I took the picture from there. It is a lovely place.

See you next week. Blessings as you "sky watch".

The cloud formations of stripes is unusual. I am sure air currents are making it all happen. Great shots.

Yes I so agree with you about the frost - I do like it when the seasons do what I expect them to. Great clouds.

I like the last pic best. Cloudformations are very nice. I don't believe I never seen quite like it before. White stuff in the middle reminds me of pot or coffeemug/such.

Looks like the town is high up in the mountain. Don't know if it is or ain't but it sure looks like it.

Thanks for visiting me. I do replay on every comment on my blog. So if you have a minute or two go check it out if interested.

You have a great week ahead of you!! Hopely the weather stay nice.

Your skies are so interesting and I'm a bit envious of a light frost. The temp went down into the 50s (10 Celsius) here last night and finally we got a little relief from the heat and humidity. Our winter is slow to arrive and lasts a day or two..I can't even get use out of a jacket or sweater most years.

Your crops looks very healthy and delicious.

Wow, look at those clouds! I think they are pretty. I didn't get my garlic planted, either, but I still have some of different sizes that have come from seed in the past.

I hope your weather has improved.
